From 27th October to 2nd November, India imported a substantial 3,028,064 metric tons of thermal coal, with Indonesia being the largest supplier, contributing almost half (1,489,423 metric tons).
South Africa followed as the second-largest exporter,
sending 795,499 metric tons, while the United States supplied 249,160 metric
tons. These three countries together constituted the majority of imports,
underscoring India’s continued reliance on Indonesian and South African coal
due to their cost-effectiveness and proximity.
The remaining imports came from diverse sources, including
Australia, Mozambique, Russia, and Belgium, reflecting India’s strategy to
diversify its supply chain for enhanced energy security.
